Haliburton est né à Windsor, en Nouvelle-Écosse. Il est l'auteur de l'ouvrage intitulé Historical and Statistical Account of Nova Scotia et du livre The Clockmaker, également appelé The Sayings, and Doings of Sam Slick of Slickville.
