Chapter 34 of the Statutes of Nova Scotia for 1966 divided Halifax North into Halifax City North East and Halifax City North West. These districts were subsequently changed in 1967, and Halifax City North East became Halifax Needham and Halifax City North West became Halifax Chebucto. (SNS 1967, c. 46) In 2003, Halifax Needham gained an area east of Citadel Hill from Halifax Citadel (SNS 2002, c.34). In 2013, following the recommendation of the Electoral Boundaries Commission, this district last the area south of Robie Street and east of Young Street to Halifax Chebucto and gained the area norht of Bayers Road and east of Connaught Avenue from Halifax Chebucto.
In 2021, using Windsor Street as a dividing line, some of Halifax Chebucto was moved to Halifax Needham. In addition, using Cogswell Street as a dividing line, some of Halifax Needham was moved to Halifax Citadel-Sable Island. It also gained and lost other areas to Halifax Chebucto.
