Explanatory Notes

Clause 1

(a) provides that the July 15, 2022 report respecting the remuneration of the members of the House of Assembly is of no effect; and

(b) results in the remuneration not changing before the next general election.

Clause 2 provides that the Premier's pay is reduced.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
(1992 Supplement)
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the House of Assembly Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 45A of Chapter 1 (1992 Supplement) of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the House of Assembly Act, as enacted by Chapter 9 of the Acts of 2006 and amended by Chapter 40 of the Acts of 2007, Chapter 5 of the Acts of 2009, Chapter 9 of the Acts of 2011, Chapter 38 of the Acts of 2013, Chapter 21 of the Acts of 2015 and Chapter 6 of the Acts of 2017, is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (6) the following subsection:

    (6A) Notwithstanding subsections (5) and (6), the recommendations in the report pursuant to subsection (1) following the 2021 general election and dated July 15, 2022, are of no effect.

2 Notwithstanding subsection 6(1) of the Executive Council Act, the annual salary of the member of the Executive Council holding the recognized position of Premier payable under the Executive Council Act is reduced by $11,246.01, until otherwise determined pursuant to Section 45A of the House of Assembly Act.
