Explanatory Note

This Bill requires automobile insurance companies to give a discount, as determined by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board, for the use of snow tires on passenger vehicles.

An Act to Amend Chapter 231
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Insurance Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 231 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Insurance Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 155K the following Section:

155L (1) In this Section, "passenger vehicle" means a passenger vehicle designed for the transportation of not more than nine persons.

(2) Effective the first day of July, 2016, every insurer shall give a discount in its rates for every passenger vehicle insured by it that has winter tires installed between December 1st and March 31st.

(3) The discount must be such amount as is determined by the Board.
