Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Human Rights Act to explicitly include gender identity and gender expression as prohibited grounds of discrimination and harassment.

An Act to Amend Chapter 214
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Human Rights Act,
to Protect the Rights of Transgendered Persons

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Transgendered Persons Protection Act.

2 Subsection 5(1) of Chapter 214, the Human Rights Act, as enacted by Chapter 12 of the Acts of 1991, is amended by adding immediately after clause (n) the following clauses:

(na) gender identity;

(nb) gender expression;
