An Act Amend Chapter 1
(1992 Supplement)
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the House of Assembly Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 (1) Subsection 40(1) of Chapter 1 (1992 Supplement) of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the House of Assembly Act, is amended by

(a) striking out "or" at the end of clause (a);

(b) striking out the comma at the end of clause (b) and substituting "; or"; and

(c) adding immediately after clause (b) the following clause:

(ba) is a member of the House and dies,

(2) Section 40 of Chapter 1 is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (1) the following subsection:

(1A) Where a person who is a member of the House of Assembly dies, the transitional allowance shall be paid to the person's estate.

2 Section 45 of Chapter 1 is amended by adding immediately after subsection (4) the following subsection:

(5) Notwithstanding subsections (1) to (4),

(a) the Speaker shall not, in the year 2001, appoint persons pursuant to subsection (1); and

(b) for the year 2002, the annual indemnity and allowance for expenses to be paid pursuant to this Act and the salaries to be paid pursuant to this Act and the Executive Council Act shall be those amounts paid pursuant to this Act and the Executive Council Act for the year 2001 plus the average percentage increase in salary paid for the year 2001 to members of the Civil Service in the Management Compensation Pay plan.

3 (1) Section 1 has effect on and after August 10, 1999.

(2) Section 2 has effect on and after October 1, 2001.
