Explanatory Note
This Bill prohibits the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board from issuing an exploration licence until a Class II environmental assessment is held.
An Act to Amend Chapter 3
of the Acts of 1987,
the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore
Petroleum Resources Accord
Implementation (Nova Scotia) Act
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Chapter 3 of the Acts of 1987, the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation (Nova Scotia) Act, as amended by Chapter 56 of the Acts of 1988, Chapter 12 of the Acts of 1992 and Chapter 16 of the Acts of 1993, is further amended by adding immediately after Section 71 the following Section:
71A Notwithstanding anything contained in this Part, the Board shall not issue an exploration licence until a Class II environmental assessment as defined in regulations made pursuant to the Environment Act is held.
