Explanatory Note
This Bill changes the manner in which the Upper Stewiacke Fire Commissioners may levy a fire protection rate from a flat, equal rate to a rate based on so much on the dollar of assessment of taxable property or occupancy assessment.
An Act to Amend Chapter 96
of the Acts of 1958,
the Upper Stewiacke Fire Protection Act
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Sections 6 and 7 of Chapter 96 of the Acts of 1958, the Upper Stewiacke Fire Protection Act, is repealed and the following Section substituted:
6 (1) The Commissioners shall estimate annually the amount of money necessary for
(a) the repayment of loans;
(b) the provision of reserves for the payment of loans and interest thereon; and
(c) the maintenance and operation of the system of fire protection in the District and all other charges and expenses in connection therewith.
(2) The amount estimated pursuant to subsection (1), when approved at the annual meeting of the persons assessed under this Act, shall be recovered by a rate of so much on the dollar on the assessed value of the taxable property or occupancy assessments in the District.
7 The Commissioners shall furnish a copy of the estimate made pursuant to subsection 6(1), signed and certified by them to the clerk of the Municipality of the County of Colchester, and thereupon the amount contained in the estimate shall be collected by the Municipality as an area rate.
