Explanatory Note

This Bill increases the fines for offences committed in a school zone or a temporary work area. The minimum fine for an offence in a school zone is increased from fifty dollars to one hundred dollars and the minimum fine for an offence in a temporary work area is increased from fifteen dollars to fifty dollars.

An Act to Amend Chapter 293
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Motor Vehicle Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 294 of Chapter 293 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Motor Vehicle Act, as amended by Chapter 36 of the Acts of 1990 and Chapter 12 of the Acts of 1994-95, is further amended by

(a) striking out "subsections (1) and (6) of Section 103," in the second line; and

(b) adding ", 107A" immediately after "107" in the third line.

2 Section 295 of Chapter 293, as amended by Chapter 36 of the Acts of 1990, Chapter 12 of the Acts of 1994-95, Chapter 23 of the Acts of 1995-96, Chapter 34 of the Acts of 1996 and Chapter 11 of the Acts of 1999, is further amended by adding ", 103" immediately after "99A" in the second line.
