An Act to Strengthen Nova Scotia Works

WHEREAS Nova Scotia Works provides employment services to residents of the Province;

AND WHEREAS there is a labour shortage and it is important to help residents enter the workforce;

AND WHEREAS Nova Scotia Works provides a career-services system that values inclusion and diversity;

AND WHEREAS Nova Scotia Works collaborates with stakeholders to promote and build welcoming and innovative work spaces;

THEREFORE be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Strengthening Nova Scotia Works Act.

2 In this Act, "Nova Scotia Works" means the province-wide network of employment services provided under the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration.

3 Subject to Section 4, the Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration shall ensure that the operating budget for Nova Scotia Works is at least equal to that of the operating budget for the fiscal year 2023.

4 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
