Explanatory Note

This Bill

(a) requires public schools to be equipped with naloxone kits; and

(b) requires education entities to ensure that teachers, principals and support staff are trained to recognize the signs of opioid overdose and in the use of naloxone kits.

An Act to Amend Schedule A
of Chapter 1 of the Acts of 2018,
the Education Act,
to Require Naloxone Kits in Public Schools

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Schedule A of Chapter 1 of the Acts of 2018, the Education Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 8 the following Section:

    8A (1) Subject to subsection (3), all public schools must be equipped with naloxone kits.

    (2) Education entities shall ensure that all teachers, principals and support staff are trained to recognize the signs of opioid overdose and in the use of naloxone kits.

    (3) The money required for the purpose of this Section must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
