Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Volunteer Fire and Ground Search and Rescue Services Act to require the Minister of Health and Wellness to reimburse volunteer fire departments for expenses incurred in the provision of emergency health services.

An Act to Amend Chapter 13
of the Acts of 2002,
the Volunteer Fire and Ground Search
and Rescue Services Act,
Respecting the Provision of Emergency Health Services

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 13 of the Acts of 2002, the Volunteer Fire and Ground Search and Rescue Services Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 7 the following Section:

    7A (1) Subject to subsection (2), the Minister of Health and Wellness shall reimburse a volunteer fire department for expenses incurred by the department in the provision of emergency health services in accordance with the regulations.

    (2) The money required for the purpose of subsection (1) must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.

2 Subsection 8(1) of Chapter 13, as amended by Chapter 40 of the Acts of 2002 and Chapter 28 of the Acts of 2010, is further amended by adding immediately after clause (ba) the following clause:

    (bb) respecting the reimbursement of volunteer fire departments for expenses incurred in the provision of emergency health services;
