An Act Respecting a Youth Housing Strategy

WHEREAS the housing crisis is having a significant impact on young adults in Nova Scotia;

AND WHEREAS the Halifax Regional Municipality is the most expensive city in Canada for people aged 15 to 29;

AND WHEREAS the rate of home ownership among 25 to 29 year olds has fallen by 36%;

AND WHEREAS a lack of student and affordable housing left hundreds of students without housing this fall semester;

AND WHEREAS the Government's housing plan lacks a comprehensive strategy for youth housing;

THEREFORE be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Youth Housing Strategy Act.

2 The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing shall, in consultation with relevant stakeholders and post-secondary institutions, develop a youth housing strategy by January 1, 2024.
