An Act to Ensure Fair Practices
in Telecommunications
in Nova Scotia
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 This Act may be cited as the Fair Telecommunications Practices Act.
(a) "phone card" means an electronic card, written certificate or other voucher or device with a monetary value, that is issued or sold in exchange for the future supply of telephone services to a consumer;
(b) "telecommunications company" means a body corporate that offers telecommunications services to consumers.
3 On or before June 1, 2013, the Government of the Province shall, where the Government of Canada agrees to do so, enter into negotiations with the Government of Canada to seek the enactment of legislation to prohibit
(a) a telecommunications company from charging any fee in respect of the provision of a paper bill to its customers in the Province; and
(b) the expiration of a phone card, including the expiration of a phone card within any period of time after the activation of the phone card.
