Explanatory Note

This Bill limits class sizes in grades primary to three to no more than 25 students unless otherwise requested by a school advisory council and approved by the Minister.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
of the Acts of 1995-96,
the Education Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, the Education Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 5 the following Section:

6 (1) Unless otherwise requested by the school advisory council for a public school and approved by the Minister but subject to subsection (2), the public school may not have more than twenty-five students in a class for grades primary, one, two or three or any grade combination thereof.

(2) The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
