Explanatory Notes

Clause 1 gives the Minister general powers to supervise, direct and control matters relating to agriculture.

Clause 2 authorizes the Minister to make regulations prescribing forms and fees.

An Act to Amend Chapter 6
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Agriculture and Marketing Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 6 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Agriculture and Marketing Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 4A the following Section:

4B The Minister may

(a) establish and administer policies, programs and guidelines pertaining to agriculture and the development and protection of agricultural resources;

(b) consult with and co-ordinate the work and efforts of other departments and agencies of the Province respecting any matter relating to agriculture;

(c) enter into agreements with the Government of Canada or the government of any other province of Canada on matters relating to agriculture;

(d) gather, compile, publish and disseminate information, including statistical data, relating to agriculture;

(e) establish and assist demonstration programs that are consistent with the intent of this Act.

2 Section 195 of Chapter 6 is repealed and the following Section substituted:

195 (1) The Minister may make regulations

(a) prescribing forms and providing for their use;

(b) prescribing fees for the purpose of this Act.

(2) The exercise by the Minister of the authority contained in subsection (1) is regulations within the meaning of the Regulations Act.
