Explanatory Notes

This Bill amends the Police Act to allow the appointment of Services Incident Response Team investigators by the Governor in Council rather than pursuant to the Civil Service Act.

An Act to Amend Chapter 31
of the Acts of 2004,
the Police Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 31 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Police Act, as amended by Chapter 68 of the Acts of 2010, is further amended by adding immediately after Section 26D the following Section:

26DA (1) The Governor in Council may, on the recommendation of the Director, appoint investigators as necessary for the purpose of the Serious Incident Response Team.

(2) The investigators shall be paid such salary and remuneration as the Governor in Council determines.

2 Section 26E of Chapter 31 as enacted by Chapter 68 of the Acts of 2010, is amended by striking out “investigators and” in the first line.

3 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
