Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Education Act to require school boards to use their best efforts to ensure that, within five years of this amendment coming into force, students spend no more than one hour each day travelling by bus one way to or from school.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
of the Acts of 1995-96,
the Education Act,
Respecting Busing

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 64 of Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, the Education Act, as amended by Chapter 5 of the Acts of 2002, Chapter 3 of the Acts of 2004 and Chapter 16 of the Acts of 2005, is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (2) the following subsection:

(2A) Notwithstanding the regulations, every school board shall use its best efforts to ensure that, within five years of the coming into force of this subsection, no student spends more than one hour each day travelling by bus one way to or from school.
