Explanatory Note

This bill amends the Education Act to require the development and implementation of a strategy respecting autism.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
of the Acts of 1995-96,
the Education Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, the Education Act, is amended by adding immediate after Section 157 the following Section:

157A (1) Subject to subsection (2), the Minister of Education shall, not later than one year after the coming into force of this Section, develop and implement a strategy to

(a) enhance early identification of autism in students;

(b) enhance public awareness respecting autism; and

(c) increase cooperation between departments in the public service respecting autistic students.

(2) The moneys required for the purpose of this Section shall be paid out of moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
