Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Student Aid Act to require the Government to establish a new low-income bursary program before September 1, 2007.

An Act to Amend Chapter 449
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Student Aid Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 449 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Student Aid Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 16 the following Section:

17 (1) Subject to subsection (2), the Government shall, before September 1, 2007, establish a new bursary program for academically qualified low-income post-secondary students that will assist those students in overcoming financial, geographical and other challenges to accessibility to post-secondary education.

(2) The moneys required for the purpose of this Section shall be paid from moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
