Explanatory Note

This Bill requires the Nova Scotia Voluntary Planning Board to develop a forestry management strategy to determine allowable annual harvest. The Board must review the strategy every 10 years.

An Act to Amend Chapter 179
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Forests Act,
Respecting Forestry Management

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 179 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Forests Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 8 the following Section:

8A (1) Not withstanding the Voluntary Planning Act but subject to subsection (3), the Nova Scotia Voluntary Planning Board shall develop a forestry management strategy to determine allowable annual harvest.

(2) The Board shall review the strategy every ten years.

(3) The moneys required for the purpose of this Section shall be paid out of moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
