Explanatory Note

This Bill establishes the third Monday in February as a holiday to be called Joseph Howe Day.

An Act Respecting
Joseph Howe Day

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Joseph Howe Day Act.

2 The third Monday of February in each year shall be kept and observed throughout the Province under the name of Joseph Howe Day.

3 Clause 7(1)(j) of Chapter 235 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Intepretation Act, is amended by adding "Joseph Howe Day," immediately before "Labour" in the fifth line.

4 Subsection 37(1) of Chapter 246 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Labour Standards Code, is amended by adding "Joseph Howe Day," immediately before "Good" in the second line.

5 Clause 2(e) of Chapter 402 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Retail Business Uniform Closing Day Act, is amended by adding immediately after subclause (iv) the following subclause:

(iva) Joseph Howe Day,
