Explanatory Note

This Bill requires the Minister to

(a) conduct a review of the income level that determines eligibility for public housing;

(b) cause to be conducted an audit of provincial public housing; and

(c) table in the House of Assembly a report of the audit referred to in (b).

An Act to Amend Chapter 211
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Housing Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 211 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Housing Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 16 the following Sections:

16A The Minister shall cause to be conducted an independent review of the income level that determines eligibility for public housing.

16B (1) The Minister shall, by August 1, 2006, cause to be conducted an independent health and safety audit of all provincially owned or operated public housing.

(2) The person who carries out the audit referred to in subsection (1) shall provide a report to the Minister by November 1, 2006.

(3) The Minister shall table the report in the House of Assembly if the House is sitting and, if the House is not sitting, file the report with the Chief Clerk of the House.
