Explanatory Note
This Bill requires the Province to compensate municipalities for increases in required expenditures or decreases in revenue where the Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations has not given the required one year notice of legislation, regulations or administrative action by the Province that results in the increases or decreases. Compensation is subject to there being an appropriation by the Legislature for the compensation.
An Act to Amend Chapter 18
of the Acts of 1998,
the Municipal Government Act
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows: 1 Section 519 of Chapter 18 of the Acts of 1998, the Municipal Government Act, is amended by adding immediately after subsection (2) the following subsections:
(4) For greater certainty, the revenue and expenditures referred to in subsection (3) include sums paid for public education.
(5) The moneys required for the purpose of this Section shall be paid out of moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
