An Act to Authorize the Municipality
of the District of Barrington to Provide
Financial Assistance to Encourage Health
Professionals to Locate in the Municipality

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the District of Barrington Health Professionals Assistance Act.

2 In this Act,

(a) "Council" means the Council of the Municipality;

(b) "grant" means a grant authorized by subsection 3(1);

(c) "health professional" means

(i) a medical doctor who is qualified and licensed to practise medicine in the Province,

(ii) a dentist who is qualified and licensed to practise dentistry in the Province, or

(iii) any other person who is qualified and licensed to provide health care in the Province;

(d) "Municipality" means the Municipality of the District of Barrington.

3 (1) Notwithstanding any other enactment, the Municipality may make a grant to any health professional to encourage the health professional to locate in the Municipality.

(2) The amount of any such grant shall be determined by resolution of the Council.

4 (1) The Municipality may enter into an agreement with a health professional to whom a grant is made respecting

(a) the services to be provided by the health professional;

(b) the length of time during which the health professional must provide the services;

(c) the area for which the services are to be provided.

5 All sums required for payments pursuant to this Act shall be held to be sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the Municipality and shall be raised, levied and collected in the same manner and in all respects as other sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the Municipality are raised, levied and collected.
