An Act to Amend Chapter 300
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Municipal Elections Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 (1) Clause 18(1)(f) of Chapter 300 is repealed and the following clause substituted:

(f) has been convicted of any corrupt practice or bribery contrary to this Act within five years preceding nomination day.

(2) Section 18 is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (1A) the following subsection:

(1B) Where a person who is a councillor is convicted of an indictable offence that is punishable by imprisonment for a maximum of more than five years, the person ceases to be a councillor.

2 Section 30 of Chapter 300 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Municipal Elections Act, is amended by adding immediately after subsection (1) the following subsection:

(1A) Notwithstanding subsection (1), the council may, by resolution, provide that the returning officer use for the regular election in 2000 the list of electors used in the provincial election held on the twenty-seventh day of July, 1999.
