Explanatory Note
This Bill requires the Executive Committee of the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities to appoint, as an officer, a municipal official representing each class of municipal units from which none of the officers is a representative.
An Act to Amend Chapter 103
of the Acts of 1981,
the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities Act
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Section 6 of Chapter 103 of the Acts of 1981, the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities Act, as amended by Chapter 76 of the Act of 1992 and Chapter 18 of the Acts of 1999, is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (6) the following subsection:
(7) Within thirty days of the election of the officers at the Annual Conference, the Executive Committee shall appoint, as an officer, a municipal official representing each of the following municipal units or classes of municipal units from which none of the officers is a representative:
(a) Halifax Regional Municipality;
(b) Cape Breton Regional Municipality;
(c) towns;
(d) municipalities of a county or municipalities of a district and the Regional Municipality of Queens.
2 Subsection 7(1) of Chapter 103, as enacted by Chapter 76 of the Acts of 1992, is amended by adding ", those officers appointed pursuant to subsection 6(7)" immediately after "Secretary - Treasurer" in the second line.
