Explanatory Note
This Bill gives the Cape Breton Regional Municipality additional by-law-making powers.
An Act to Amend Chapter 3 of the Acts of 1994,
the Cape Breton Regional Municipality Act
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Subsection 119(1) of Chapter 3 of the Acts of 1994, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality Act, is amended by striking out the period at the end of clause (o) and substituting a semicolon and adding immediately after clause (o) the following clauses:
(p) appointing a day to be a civic holiday;
(q) regulating or prohibiting smoking in places to which the public has access;
(r) prescribing fire-safety and prevention measures, including the adoption by reference, with or without amendment, in whole or in part, of any edition of the National Fire Code of Canada issued by the National Research Council of Canada, and any amendment thereto;
(s) regulating fire and burglar alarms, including the terms and conditions under which such alarms may be connected to a police or fire station or alarm system, and providing penalties or the recovery of expenses or both in the event of false alarms, including provision for licences for
(ii) persons who sell, repair or install alarms, and
(iii) persons who provide the service of monitoring alarms.
