2018-04-17_4295_SS: Referring to viewing public

HON. DEREK MOMBOURQUETTE: I don't know if they are watching tonight, but Emily Lutz and Meg Hodges are the reason why this bill is passing tonight. If you are watching, the Kings County Councillors, thank you very much for your advocacy on this bill.

MR. SPEAKER: I would like to remind the honourable minister not to speak to the viewing public directly.

2018-04-17_4275_SS: Referral to government by name

MR. TIM HOUSTON: Selling cannabis in the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation, we will look back and say, what a bunch of problem-stretching the Liberals did under the McNeil Government. What a bunch of problem-stretching they did.

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. I'd just like to remind the honourable member not to refer to members opposite directly, or refer to the government by the Premier's surname. The current government is the current government.

The honourable member for Pictou East.

2019-04-08_2999_SS: Members statements directed through the Chair

THE SPEAKER: I just want to remind all members that members' statements should be directed through the Chair and not speaking directly to the subject of your members' statements. I've heard several of them that are addressing the topic of the members' statement directly so, just a point of clarification.

2020-03-06_5941_SS: Referring to government by name of Premier

BARBARA ADAMS: Nursing homes are an important option for people who have difficulty performing everyday tasks such as dressing, bathing and toileting. It is shameful that the McNeil Government has essentially cut funding . . .

THE SPEAKER: Order, please. I'd like to remind the honourable member not to refer to the government by the proper name of the Premier.

2015-11-26_6235:SS: Congratulatory Messages in Members' Statements

MR. SPEAKER: Just before the time expires for members' statements, I'll take the opportunity to provide my semi-annual friendly reminder about directly congratulating the great work going on in our constituencies. Members' statements, like all discourse in the Chamber, are intended to be directed through the Chair and not directly at the contents or the subject of your member statements.

2015-11-25_6124_SR: Review former ruling on using the name of the Premier

Review former Speaker's ruling on using the name of the Premier in Statements by Members (Pt. of order by Hon. David Wilson [Hansard p.6069, Nov. 24/15])

It is not acceptable to refer to a current government by the surname of the current Premier where it is not necessary to distinguish it from a different government. It is out of order to refer to members by name even if the member speaking is quoting from a document.
