MR. SPEAKER: Honourable members, we'll start our business of the day for Friday with the daily routine.
PRESENTING AND READING PETITIONS
MR. SPEAKER: The honourable member for Cumberland South.
HON. MURRAY SCOTT: Mr. Speaker, here we are on day 14 of this session of the House - 14 days of broken promises. I am pleased to table a petition here on behalf of the residents of Cumberland County. The headline reads, as a result of this headline in the local paper, "Dexter says he'd keep Tory promises." As a result of his statement to the people of this province, the people of Cumberland County are saying:
"We, the residents of Cumberland County implore that Premier Darrell Dexter keep his word and build a correctional facility in Cumberland County!"
Mr. Speaker, 95 people have signed this petition, bringing the total at this point to 1,006 people - and I have affixed my signature.
MR. SPEAKER: The petition is tabled.

RESOLUTION NO. 423
HON. DENISE PETERSON-RAFUSE: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas on March 11th Canada ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, ensuring people with disabilities have the same civil and human rights as everyone else; and
Whereas Nova Scotia was one of the first provinces to support ratification, keeping its commitment to uphold the rights of those with disabilities and support their full participation, integration and independence; and
Whereas today, April 16th, during an event at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, members of the disability community celebrated this important achievement;
Therefore be it resolved that all members of this House commend the work and dedication of Nova Scotians involved in the development, signing, and ratification of the International Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Mr. Speaker, I request waiver of notice.

HON. CHRISTOPHER D'ENTREMONT: Mr. Speaker, to the - what side is that? The west gallery - I always get mixed up between the two, but my wife Anne is in the gallery today. It is the first time she has visited since the last election, getting used to being in that gallery rather than in that gallery and looking down upon the backsides of the NDP. So Anne, welcome to town. She's in town for a francophone schoolteacher conference at the World Trade Centre and just to welcome her to the House and tell her, of course, again that I love her. (Applause)

RESOLUTION NO. 424
MS. VICKI CONRAD: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the Habitat for Humanity project in Queens County is very close to completion and the family is ready to move in; and
Whereas the fundraising efforts of the Habitat for Humanity volunteer organization exceeded their goal; and
Whereas the land was donated by the Region of Queens Municipality and a number of businesses and residents have donated money, material, and time;
Therefore be it resolved that the House of Assembly recognize the Habitat for Humanity volunteers, the Region of Queens Municipality, residents, and businesses throughout Queens for their participation in this project.

MR. DAVID WILSON: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas on Saturday, April 17, 2010, the Lions Club of Lower Sackville will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the charter of the club; and
Whereas the Lions Club of Lower Sackville has had hundreds of dedicated members over the past 40 years; and
Whereas these members have made a significant difference in the lives of the residents of the community and have volunteered countless hours fundraising for the Sackville Lions Club;
Therefore be it resolved that all members of the Nova Scotia Legislature recognize the important contribution the Sackville Lions Club has made to the community of Lower Sackville, congratulate them on reaching their 40th Anniversary charter, and wish them continued success in the future.

RESOLUTION NO. 426

I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas Chris Brown is an up-and-coming musician and entertainer from Springhill; and
Whereas Brown, after years of touring success as a member of the band Nicknameless, has released his first solo album Into the Woulds; and
Whereas this album is a retrospective of the last two years of his life touring Atlantic Canada with his former band and includes the song What You're Looking For, specifically about his hometown of Springhill;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this House of Assembly congratulate Chris Brown on his first solo album and wish him the best of luck with his musical career.
