MR. DONALD DOWNE: Mr. Speaker, last night in a debate on Estimates, I referred to the Minister of Health as being a coward. I retracted the statement but I thought the honourable thing to do would be to apologize to the members of the House and to the minister. He understands how frustrated I am about the concerns about the pediatric unit in my riding and for the children of the South Shore but I do, from a professional point of view, want to apologize to the minister for referring to him as a coward and I would ask for acceptance of that apology.
MR. SPEAKER: Thank you. Is it agreed? (Applause)
I thank the honourable member for Lunenburg West for that.

RESOLUTION NO. 3059
MR. DARRELL DEXTER: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the support services provided by women's centres and transition houses are sorely needed in times of domestic crisis; and
Whereas Nova Scotians owe much to the front-line workers of our women's centres and transition houses, those people who year after year provide the care and support sorely needed by women and children in abusive and troubled family relationships; and
Whereas one of those front-line workers is Flo Denny, a transition house worker with 10 years of service at Chrysalis House in Kentville;
Therefore be it resolved that this House applaud Flo Denny, a transition house worker at Chrysalis House in Kentville, for the care and support she provides to families in crisis.
Mr. Speaker, I request waiver of notice.

MS. MAUREEN MACDONALD: Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the support services provided by women's centres and transition houses are sorely needed in times of domestic crisis; and
Whereas Nova Scotians owe much to the front-line workers of our women's centres and transition houses, those people who year after year provide the care and support sorely needed by women and children in abusive and troubled family relationships; and
Whereas one of those front-line workers is Carole Wilson, a women's support counsellor with 13 years of service at Autumn House in Amherst;
Therefore be it resolved that this House applaud Carole Wilson, women's support counsellor at Autumn House in Amherst, for the care and support she provides to families in crisis.
Mr. Speaker, I request waiver of notice.

The notice of motion moved by the honourable Leader of the Official Opposition, it is very difficult a lot of times in here to hear what's being said and in all fairness to all members, to be asked to vote on something when you can't hear, when you're not sure, causes a lot of disruption in the House. I would ask the honourable members, when there is someone speaking, to give them the courtesy of at least listening and you can express your feelings afterwards.
Anyway, the honourable Leader of the Official Opposition on his resolution, there has been a request for waiver.

Whereas the support services provided by women's centres and transition houses are sorely needed in times of domestic crisis; and
Whereas Nova Scotians owe much to the front-line workers of our women's centres and transition houses, those people who year after year provide the care and support sorely needed by women and children in abusive and troubled family relationships; and
Whereas one of those front-line workers is Linda Lapierre, a children's outreach worker with 14 years of service at Chrysalis House in Kentville;
Therefore be it resolved that this House applaud Linda Lapierre, a children's outreach worker at Chrysalis House in Kentville, for the care and support she provides to families in crisis.

The honourable Government House Leader.
HON. RONALD RUSSELL: Mr. Speaker, I move that the House do now rise to meet again on Monday at the hour of 2:00 p.m until 10:00 p.m. The order of business following the daily routine will be Committee of the Whole House on Estimates and at the conclusion of the four hours in Committee of the Whole House, we will be moving into Public Bills for Second Reading, commencing with Bill No. 112, Gas Distribution Act. When we are finished that bill, whenever that is - during the week or on Monday - we will move on to Bill 109, Financial Measures (2002) Act, which is the second bill we will be debating.
AN HON. MEMBER: What are you doing three weeks after that?
MR. RUSSELL: That's a little far in advance and I can't go that far. On Monday we will sit from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Tuesday, 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.; Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Thursday, 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.; and Friday, TBA. Thank you.
MR. SPEAKER: The motion is that the House do adjourn, to sit again on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

NOTICES OF MOTION UNDER RULE 32(3)
RESOLUTION NO. 3062
By: Mrs. Muriel Baillie (Pictou West)
I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas in January, Scott Covey was one of the almost 3,000 people to run the 2002 Marathon at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida; and
Whereas Scott ran this marathon, his very first, in three hours, four minutes and 12 seconds, and placed fifth in his category and 73rd overall; and
Whereas starting his run too fast was the lesson to be learned but Scott greatly enjoyed his first run and, more importantly, raised funds for the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society and is looking forward to next year's event;
Therefore be it resolved that members of this House commend Scott Covey for crossing the finish line and encourage him to take part in the Johnny Miles Marathon this June in New Glasgow.
RESOLUTION NO. 3063

I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas the Information Economy Initiative has put Internet access and more than 6,000 computers in Nova Scotia classrooms; and
Whereas a new pilot project called Composers in Virtual Classrooms is allowing students at R.B. Dickey Elementary School in Amherst to use technology to compose their own music; and
Whereas these young maestros can upload their compositions to a Web site and have music students at Acadia University provide feedback electronically;
Therefore be it resolved that members of this House acknowledge the partnerships between government and education sectors that are allowing our students to explore their musical creativity in innovative ways.
RESOLUTION NO. 3064

I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas April 7th to April 13th is Information Rights Week and Nova Scotia's libraries are promoting the theme Canada @ Your Library; and
Whereas libraries have a long and respected tradition of making information available to citizens; and
Whereas both the federal and Nova Scotia Governments have systems in place to make government publications available through our libraries;
Therefore be it resolved that the members of this House encourage all Nova Scotians to make full use of the information resources offered through our libraries.
RESOLUTION NO. 3065

I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas safety is of the utmost priority to all Nova Scotians; and
Whereas the Nova Scotia Safety Council held its 20th annual conference and trade show last month; and
Whereas this event reinforced the need for timely safety education and training across many sectors;
Therefore be it resolved that this House congratulate the Safety Council for its contribution to a safer Nova Scotia.
RESOLUTION NO. 3066

I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:
Whereas it was on this day, April 12th, 66 years ago in 1936 that the Moose River Mines Disaster took place; and
Whereas Moose River was first mined for gold in 1881 but abandoned for 50 years until resumption in 1934; and
Whereas historical references to the disaster only point to a number of miners being trapped for nearly 12 days with one confirmed fatality but despite this harrowing experience for the miners of the day, the media practically ignored it with the exception of CBC Reporter Frank J. Willis who did a total of 99 two-minute radio broadcasts from the disaster scene;
Therefore be it resolved that MLAs today reflect upon this province's historical significance with the mining industry and pay tribute to the many rescues which have transpired, disasters where rescues were not able to be carried out and truly appreciate the fact these men were simply doing a job they were paid to do, danger or no danger.
