Explanatory Notes

Clause 1 sets out the short title of this Act.

Clause 2 makes mandatory the appointment by the Governor in Council of a Chief Administrative Officer of the Nova Scotia Youth Secretariat.

Clause 3 requires the Secretariat to establish a committee to focus on mental health issues of youth and support systems for youth. The committee must be composed of both youth and political party representatives.

An Act to Amend Chapter 511
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Youth Secretariat Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as Cayley's Law.

2 Subsection 5(1) of Chapter 511 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Youth Secretariat Act, is amended by striking out "may" in the first line and substituting "shall".

3 Section 7 of Chapter 511 is repealed and the following Section substituted:

7 The Secretariat shall establish

(a) a committee, consisting of youth and political party representatives, to focus on mental health issues of and support systems for youth; and

(b) such other committees as it deems proper for carrying out its object and purpose,

and may delegate to any committee any of its powers, duties and functions.
