An Act to Amend Chapter 71
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Civil Service Collective Bargaining Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 2 of Chapter 71 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Civil Service Collective Bargaining Act, is amended by

(a) adding immediately after clause (e) the following clause:

(ea) "department" means any department, office, agency, board, commission, corporation or other entity where persons are employed pursuant to the Civil Service Act;

and

(b) adding immediately after clause (k) the following clause:

(ka) "student" means a person enrolled in and returning to a course of studies at an educational institution;

2 Clauses 11(1)(c) and (d) of Chapter 71 are repealed and the following clauses substituted:

(c) employed on a casual basis unless employed continuously for more than ten weeks or employed in the same department for more than a total of ten weeks in a twelve-month period;

(d) employed on a seasonal basis unless employed for more than a total of ten weeks in a twelve-month period;

(da) a student unless employed continuously in a bargaining-unit position for more than ten weeks or employed in a bargaining-unit position in the same department for more than a total of ten weeks in a twelve-month period;

3 This Act comes into force on February 1, 2008.
