An Act to Amend Chapter 18
of the Acts of 1998,
the Municipal Government Act
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Section 313 of Chapter 18 of the Acts of 1998, the Municipal Government Act, is amended by
(b) striking out "buildings" in the second line of clause (a) and substituting "properties, including buildings, and other locations".
2 (1) Subsection 530(1) of Chapter 18 is amended by striking out ", to be used solely for the benefit of the area that was formerly the City of Halifax" in the last two lines.
(2) Subsection 530(3) of Chapter 18 is amended by striking out ", to be used solely for the benefit of the area that was formerly the City of Dartmouth" in the last two lines.
(3) Subsection 530(4A) of Chapter 18 is repealed and the following subsections substituted:
(4B) Rates levied pursuant to subsection (4A) may be levied on the assessed value of the taxable property and business occupancy assessments and may be different for commercial property and business occupancy assessments than for residential and resource property.
(4C) Notwithstanding Section 75, the Halifax Regional Municipality may levy or charge different area rates for different areas in the Halifax Regional Municipality and the combined funds raised may be allocated by the council of the Halifax Regional Municipality for the use or benefit of the Halifax Regional School Board throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality without restriction on area.
4 This Act has effect on and after April 1, 2007, upon the Governor in Council so ordering and declaring by proclamation.
