Explanatory Note

This Bill requires a warning sign on the rear of a truck, or combinations of trucks, exceeding 7.5 metres in length. The sign would indicate the length of the truck.

An Act to Amend Chapter 293
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Motor Vehicle Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 174 of Chapter 293 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Motor Vehicle Act, is amended by adding immediately after subsection (11) the following subsection:

(12) Any vehicle or combination of vehicles exceeding 7.5 metres in length shall, in addition to the requirements of subsection (11), display, at the end of the vehicle or vehicles in such a position as to be clearly visible at all times from the rear of the vehicle or vehicles, a sign indicating the approximate length of the vehicle or combination of vehicles.

2 Subsection 191(1) of Chapter 293, as amended by Chapter 12 of the Acts of 1994-95 and Chapter 12 of the Acts of 2001, is further amended by adding immediately after clause (ae) the following clause:

(af) respecting signs required by subsection (12) of Section 174;

3 This Act comes into force six months after receiving Royal Assent.
