An Act Respecting
Drought Relief for Farmers

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Crop and Livestock Insurance Review (1998) Act.

2 In this Act, "Minister" means the Minister of Agriculture and Marketing.

3 Within six months of the coming into force of this Act, the Minister shall

(a) review the drought relief provided to farmers by the Crop and Livestock Insurance Act and regulations made pursuant to that Act;

(b) consult with the farmers of the Province respecting drought relief;

(c) report to the House of Assembly respecting a permanent plan for drought relief for farmers.

4 Within sixty days of the coming into force of this Act, the Minister shall establish and, subject to Section 5, implement an interim drought-relief program for farmers affected by the dry weather this year.

5 The moneys required for the purposes of this Act shall be paid from moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
