2012-05-15_2273_PO: Retraction of Comments

HON. CHRISTOPHER D'ENTREMONT: Madam Speaker, on a point of order. During questioning, when the member for Victoria-The Lakes was asking questions, the Deputy Premier did say a few words there - not that I'm going to repeat them, but if he would mind maybe retracting them and we'll move on. (Interruptions)

Well, do you want me to say them? He said the member for Victoria-The Lakes had an empty head and I think that was inappropriate in this House. I thought that maybe it should require an apology.

HON. MICHEL SAMSON: Madam Speaker, I'm going to be brief, but I can't help but say a few words as to what we just heard from the member for Queens-Shelburne. It's one thing to raise concerns on behalf of constituents; it's another thing to be blissfully ignorant about the actual facts that are involved around that. For whatever reason, the member continues to stand and make statements in this House that are completely false.

HON. MAUREEN MACDONALD: I rise on a point of sanctimonious order, Mr. Speaker, as the Minister of the Public Service Commission indicates, and I will call that minister out.

Mr. Speaker, during Question Period when one of the members of this caucus was asking a question, I heard, and I think other members heard, someone from the government side yell out "get a hearing aid," and I think if that is not unparliamentarily it certainly is a great insult to those who have hearing loss and it's an inappropriate comment to make in this Assembly.

MR. DAVID WILSON: Mr. Speaker, that's a load of baloney.

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. I'd like to remind the honourable member for Sackville-Cobequid that I'm pretty sure "load of baloney" is unparliamentary. I'll look it up just to be sure and get back to you.

MR. DAVID WILSON: Mr. Speaker, I do retract that. It's a load of something, I know that much

MR. KOUSOULIS: Mr. Speaker, we are considering all of the options available to us at this point. I'd also like to point out that the NDP, although they're accusing me of lying, you can't sit there and make things up and say that the Premier under the NDP was supporting the Public Service. There was no Premier's Award of Excellence, they cancelled that, and Premier Dexter also didn't even find fit to go to the Long Service Awards.

MS. ZANN: ... I have been saying for months now that teachers are telling me that they've not been consulted meaningfully about these reforms, and now we're hearing that the teachers are actually feeling bullied by the government. So my question for the minister is . . .

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. It is unparliamentary to infer that the government is bullying anybody.

THE PREMIER: Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the honourable member for the question. I believe I have acted on behalf of the people of this province in the way that the people of this province would want me to act. When information was brought to my attention that I believe was inappropriate, I acted quickly and swiftly to deal with it. At any time when I have made a mistake, I have no problem apologizing to the people of this province.
