2017-04-26_2444_SR: Order of recognition by Speaker

MR. SPEAKER: The honourable member for Cumberland North.

MR. TERRY FARRELL: I just thought I'd stand up today and make some remarks with respect to this bill that might help wrap things up a little bit and move us forward. I think it's pretty clear that this is a bit of legislation that was brought about as the result of some changes that were proposed to the Seniors' Pharmacare Program. I think it's important that we get the history on those changes correct. At the time there was an attempt to reform…

2017-04-26_2386_SS: Petition out of order

MR. SPEAKER: Also, I have had a chance to review the petition as submitted by the honourable member for Timberlea-Prospect, and unfortunately I have to reject it. The petition is not in order in a couple of items. There is no ask identified here that is within the power of government to do and also the prayer is not on the signature pages. They are stand-alone signature pages and unfortunately that does not meet our minimum requirements.

2017-04-26_2379_PP: Electoral boundaries process unconstitutional

HON. STERLING BELLIVEAU: Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of privilege.

I came to this House yesterday hoping that the government was ready to take action to lay out a plan outlining how the electoral boundaries issue would be resolved before the next election. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed. I take this to mean that the Premier is officially refusing to address this issue before the next general election.

2017-04-28_2659_SS: No referral to Member by name

MS. LISA ROBERTS: I would like to share a Sterling Belliveau-ism with the members of the House who don't have the benefit of receiving his advice in our caucus meetings. There is no "I" in team.

...

MR. SPEAKER: I would like to remind the honourable member for Halifax Needham not to refer to other members by their proper name. He's still a member for a little while yet. A Sterling Belliveau-ism (Interruptions). I understand.

2017-04-28_2685_PO: Consent to move bill to order paper

HON. DAVID WILSON: Mr. Speaker, on a point of order. On Tuesday, we were asked by the Government House Leader to consent to move Bill No. 59 on to the order paper and have it debated because it was an important bill. On this National Day of Mourning, I ask for similar consent for a bill that the government introduced today, Bill No. 90, which would do what we think Nova Scotians would want us to do: improve workplace safety.

I would ask for consent of the House to move that Bill No. 90 be placed on the order paper today and called for second reading debate.

2017-04-28_2684_PO: Disagreement of facts

HON. JAMIE BAILLIE: Mr. Speaker, on a point of order. With great reluctance, I need to correct a statement made by the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development during Question Period. As member for Cumberland South I am very proud that I have raised the Springhill school both in this House . . .

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. Is it a point of order or a disagreement of facts?
