2012-04-12_0582_SS: Unparliamentary language

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. The word "falsehood" is unparliamentary. I would ask the honourable member if he would please retract that word in his statement.

THE PREMIER: Mr. Speaker, I understand that you can say it, you just can't do it. Is that the idea? Oh, no, it's the other way around - you can do it, you just can't say it. (Interruptions)

Mr. Speaker, I retract it.

2012-04-04_0260_SS: MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT RULE 43_ Energy: Power Rate Increases

MR. SPEAKER: I have received more than the two hours notice of the matter required under Rule 43(2). Under Rule 43(4) I am required to decide whether the matter is proper to be discussed. I have considered the factors set out in Rule 43(4A). This is a matter of grave concern to Nova Scotians and which concerns the administrative responsibility of the government and could come within the scope of ministerial action. I have no indication that this is likely to be debated within a reasonable time by other means.

So to say we should be here and support this, we should be supporting every small business in Nova Scotia, every person in Nova Scotia, and they should come first and foremost before outside companies who come in here to rape our land and take value of our land and move it outside the Province of Nova Scotia.

So, Madam Speaker, with those few words I will take my place.

MADAM SPEAKER: Before adjourning this evening, I would ask the member to retract the use of the word "rape", as it is unparliamentary.

MR. MACLEOD: I have no problem slowing down. When will the minister urge his would-be gerrymandering colleagues to establish the new constituency of Nova Scotia Gone West, so that the more than 13,000 Nova Scotians working in Alberta will at least be able to properly voice their displeasure with this NDP Government?

MR. SPEAKER: I would remind the honourable member for Cape Breton West that imputing motives during Question Period is unparliamentary so I would ask the honourable member if he would retract that please, "gerrymandering."

MR. PARIS: Well, Mr. Speaker, I think I'm surprised at the ignorance I'm hearing from the opposite side of the House.

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. (Interruptions) I would remind the honourable minister that that language is unparliamentary, and I'd ask the honourable minister to retract that, please.

MR. PARIS: Mr. Speaker, I will retract that. I'll replace that word with "lack of knowledge" - the lack of information that the member has.

2012-10-30_2768_SS: Unparliamentary Language

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. The word "rigged" is unparliamentary in many jurisdictions and I would ask the honourable Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party if he would retract that, please.

MR. BAILLIE: Mr. Speaker, perhaps the word "fixed" would have been better. Thank you. (Interruptions)

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please. That is also unparliamentary so I would suggest you get the thesaurus out and have a look for another word. I would ask the honourable member, please.
