Explanatory Note

This Bill replaces the existing requirement in the Municipal Grants Act that a municipality must submit a claim to the Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations to receive a grant in lieu of taxes and replaces it with a requirement to supply the Minister with information at the time and in the manner required by the Minister.

An Act to Amend Chapter 302
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Municipal Grants Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsections 3(3) and (4) of Chapter 302 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Municipal Grants Act are repealed and the following subsections substituted:

(3) The grant shall be paid after receipt by the Minister of the information required from a municipality, village or service commission.

(4) The information required for a grant pursuant to subsection (3) shall be submitted by a municipality, village or service commission

(a) in the same fiscal year as that for which the taxes were levied; and

(b) at the time and in the manner prescribed by the Minister.

2 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
