Explanatory Notes

Clause 1 removes the restriction on membership in the Temple Sons of Israel to males.

Clause 2 authorizes the Temple Sons of Israel to provide a cemetery for its members and their families and to assist with funerals and interment.

Clause 3 vests the property of the Hebrew Cemetery Company in the Temple Sons of Israel.

Clause 4 adds a Schedule describing the property of the Hebrew Cemetery Company being vested in the Temple Sons of Israel.

An Act to Amend Chapter 224
of the Acts of 1920,
An Act to Incorporate
the Temple Sons of Israel, Sydney

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Section 1 of Chapter 224 of the Acts of 1920, An Act to Incorporate the Temple Sons of Israel, Sydney, is amended by striking out "male" in the fifth line.

2 Section 2 of Chapter 224, as enacted by Chapter 98 of the Acts of 1963, is amended by striking out the period at the end of clause (d) and adding the following clause:

(e) to provide a cemetery for the interment of deceased members and their families, and assist with funerals and interment in accordance with the Jewish law and custom.

3 Section 6 of Chapter 224 is amended by adding "and all property of the Hebrew Cemetery Company of Sydney referred to in the Schedule to this Act" immediately after "corporation" in the second line.

4 Chapter 224 is further amended by adding immediately after Section 12 the following Schedule:

SCHEDULE

Property of the former Hebrew Cemetery Company of Sydney which property consists of approximately 4.5 acres, is located on Linview Drive, in Sydney, in the County of Cape Breton, is known as the Hebrew Cemetery and is identified as P.I.D. 15154412.
