CHAPTER 205

Short title
1 This Act may be cited as the Hospital Education Assistance Act. R.S., c. 205, s. 1.
Interpretation
2 In this Act,
(a) "Committee" means the Education Assistance Committee established by the Education Assistance Act;
(b) "Hospital" means the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre;
(c) "Minister" means the Minister of Education. R.S., c. 205, s. 2; 1996, c. 26, s. 21; 2001, c. 49, s. 1.
Financial assistance
3 With the approval of the Governor in Council, the Minister may provide financial assistance to the Hospital in respect of expenditures made by the Hospital for salaries and other costs and expenses incurred in the operation of education programs. R.S., c. 205, s. 3.
Qualifications for assistance
4 To qualify for such assistance, the Hospital shall
(a) conduct education programs at appropriate levels consistent with education programs available to children who have attained five years of age on the first day of October in the school year and are enrolled in the public schools of the Province;
(b) submit to the Committee on or before the thirtieth day of September in each year the proposed education program to be offered in its fiscal year beginning on the first day of January immediately following the said thirtieth day of September and include in the statement
(ii) a schedule listing the estimated number of children who are expected to be enrolled in each of the programs, and
(iii) a statement of estimated expenditures of the Hospital for the program, such estimate to be in such form as is prescribed from time to time by the Minister; and
(c) in respect of its educational programs, submit a report and audited statements of expenditures before the twenty-eighth day of February next following the end of its fiscal year. R.S., c. 205, s. 4.
Regulations
5 The Governor in Council may make regulations
(a) for the management, administration and conduct of education programs at the Hospital;
(b) prescribing the terms, conditions and amounts of financial assistance to be provided to the Hospital in respect of education programs;
(c) prescribing forms and information required in respect of education programs;
(d) respecting any matter necessary or advisable to carry out the intent and purposes of this Act. R.S., c. 205, s. 5.
Regulations Act
6 The exercise by the Governor in Council of the authority set forth in Section 5 shall be regulations within the meaning of the Regulations Act. R.S., c. 205, s. 6.
