            An Act to Permit the City of Halifax to
            Grant Tax Exemptions to the Operators of
                 Container Terminals Located on
               Halifax Harbour and Bedford Basin



         Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:


         1  This Act may be cited as the Halifax Container
Terminals Tax Exemption Act.


         2  (1) Notwithstanding the Halifax City Charter and the
Assessment Act, the City of Halifax may enter into agreements,
with the operators of the container terminals located on Halifax
Port Corporation property at Pier "C" on Halifax Harbour and
at Fairview Cove on Bedford Basin, providing for the exemption
of the operators from municipal taxation for the fiscal year
beginning April 1, 1995, and ending March 31, 1996, to the
extent and under the conditions provided for in the agreements.

            (2) Where no agreement is in effect respecting such a
container terminal, the operator thereof shall be taxed in the
usual manner.
