VICE CHAIR

Melissa Sheehy-Richard

THE CHAIR (Melissa Sheehy-Richard): Order. I call this meeting to order. This is the Standing Committee on Human Resources. I am Melissa Sheehy-Richard, the MLA for Hants East and vice chair of this committee. I will be chairing our meeting today. Today we will be reviewing the appointments to agencies, boards, and commissions. Just reminding everyone to please have your phones on silent and make sure that if we exit, we use the door over here to my right.

At this point I would invite the committee members to introduce themselves by stating their name and constituency, beginning with MLA Johns.

[The committee members introduced themselves.]

THE CHAIR: For the purposes of Hansard, I also recognize the presence of Legislative Counsel Kilian Schlemmer and Legislative Committee Clerk Judy Kavanagh.

We’ll move over into committee business at this point. I’m looking for a motion for the agencies, boards, and commissions. MLA MacDonald.

JOHN A. MACDONALD: For the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, under the Apprenticeship Board, I recommend Ryan Best as member, Motive Sector; Charmaine Roma as member, Service Sector; and Barry Landry, Megan Sawler, and Ann Sylliboy as members at large.

THE CHAIR: Is there any discussion on the motion?

All those in favour? Contrary minded? Thank you.

The motion is carried.

Next up we have the annual report that the clerk has circulated, the Standing Committee on Human Resources Annual Report 2024. It was received on September 13th for review. At this point I’m just wondering if there are any questions or comments. MLA Young.

NOLAN YOUNG: Just curious, you’re looking for a motion to accept the annual report as presented?

THE CHAIR: Yes, please.

NOLAN YOUNG: I so move. (Interruptions)

THE CHAIR: And file it in the Office of the Chief Clerk for tabling in the House.

NOLAN YOUNG: Yes.

THE CHAIR: All those in favour? Contrary minded? Thank you.

The motion is carried.

Next up on the agenda, we did receive correspondence on September 19, 2024, a letter from the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration in response to questions asked at the meeting on September 3rd. Members are in receipt of this as well, again last Friday afternoon. Is there any discussion on that piece of correspondence? Seeing none, we’ll add that to (inaudible).

Is there any other committee business at this time? Seeing none, our next meeting date is Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The topic is Government Investment in Health Care Tuition Programs and the Response of the Post-Secondary Institutions. Witnesses will be the Nova Scotia Community College and the Department of Advanced Education.

I call the meeting adjourned.

[The committee adjourned at 1:04 p.m.]
