CHAIRMAN
Mr. Chuck Porter
MR. CHAIRMAN: Good morning everyone. We have eight seconds left and we'll call it to order. Yes, I know, everyone needs to wait until ten o'clock for Hansard - there we go. We can start with introductions.
[The committee members introduced themselves.]
MR. CHAIRMAN: Welcome. The only thing on the agenda this morning is the ABCs. We'll start with the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage - the Gaelic College Foundation Board of Governors - Mr. Wilton.
MR. DAVID WILTON: Mr. Chairman, I move that the appointments of Christopher Todd Higgins and Anne Peters to the Gaelic College Foundation Board of Governors, as governors, be approved.
MR. CHAIRMAN: Is there any discussion? Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.
The motion is carried.
The Department of Community Services - Ms. Treen.
MS. JOYCE TREEN: Mr. Chairman, I move that the appointment of Cheryl Stewart-Walsh to the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, as a member, be approved.
MR. CHAIRMAN: Is there any discussion? Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.
The motion is carried.
The Department of Labour and Advanced Education - Mr. Gough.
MR. STEPHEN GOUGH: Mr. Chairman, under the Department of Labour and Advanced Education, I move that the appointment of Steve Ashton to the Workers' Compensation Board, as a member/employer representative, be approved.
MR. CHAIRMAN: Is there any discussion? Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.
The motion is carried.
Service Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission - Mr. Wilson.
MR. GORDON WILSON: Mr. Chairman, I move that the appointments of Carol Beal and Nancy McGrath to the Real Estate Commission of Nova Scotia, as members, be approved.
MR. CHAIRMAN: Is there any discussion? Mr. Orrell.
MR. EDDIE ORRELL: I believe that Ms. McGrath has some connection to the Premier's constituency association and there were a bunch of other people who were capable and qualified to be on that commission. I'm not going to object to the appointment. It's just that I want to put that on the record.
MR. CHAIRMAN: Thank you, Mr. Orrell. Mr. Wilson.
MR. GORDON WILSON: I just want to note that I believe it's the federal West Nova Party she was with at one point in time.
MR. CHAIRMAN: Thank you, Mr. Wilson. Is there any further discussion?
Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.
The motion is carried.
With no further business on the agenda today, our next meeting is Tuesday, May 30th, where we will see ABCs before the committee and Deputy Minister Byron Rafuse with the Department of Finance and Treasury Board - tentative, depending on the House sitting. (Interruption) Thank you, Mr. Orrell. (Laughter)
At this point, with no further business, we'll adjourn the meeting. Thank you very much.
[The committee adjourned at 10:03 a.m.]
