An Act to Improve
the Collection of Data and Statistics
Respecting Rural Areas
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 This Act may be cited as the Rural Housing and Economic Data Accuracy Act.
2 In this Act, "community" means a population centre or a designated place in the Province as defined by Statistics Canada in the Census of Population, 2021.
3 (1) Subject to Section 4, the Economics and Statistics Division of the Department of Finance and Treasury Board shall collect data respecting income and rent costs for each community.
(2) Data collected under subsection (1) must be shared with the Government of Canada and made available to the public.
(3) The Government of the Province shall use data collected under subsection (1) in government decision-making and in determining the eligibility thresholds and funding amounts for government programs.
4 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
