An Act to Increase
the Heating Rebate Program

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Heating Rebate Program Increase Act.

2 In this Act,

"Minister" means the Minister of Service Nova Scotia;

"Program" means the Heating Assistance Rebate Program administered by the Department of Service Nova Scotia.

3 (1) Subject to Section 5, upon the coming into force of this Act, the Minister shall initially set the household income threshold for eligibility under the Program to $85,000.

(2) Subject to Section 5, the Minister shall set the rebate payable under the Program to $1,000.

4 Subject to Section 5, the Minister shall ensure that

(a) eligibility for the Program is determined; and

(b) the Program is funded and administered,

on an annual basis.

5 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
