Explanatory Note

This Bill provides school principals with the exclusive authority to make weather-related school closure decisions.

An Act to Amend Schedule A
of Chapter 1 of the Acts of 2018,
the Education Act,
Respecting School Weather Closings

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Schedule A of Chapter 1 of the Acts of 2018, the Education Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 72 the following Section:

    72A Notwithstanding Section 72, a decision to temporarily close, delay the opening of or cancel or suspend classes at a school for reasons related to weather conditions may only be made by the principal of that school.
