An Act to Exempt the Forestry
Industry from Carbon Pricing

WHEREAS lumber is integral to building homes;

AND WHEREAS it is necessary to reduce costs of housing supplies to deal with the housing crisis;

THEREFORE be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Forestry Industry Carbon Pricing Exemption Act.

2 The Minister of Environment and Climate Change shall, in the next sitting of the House of Assembly after the coming into force of this Act, introduce legislation to exempt the Province's forestry industry from the output-based pricing system under Part XIB of the Environment Act.

3 The Minister of Environment and Climate Change and the Minister of Natural Resources and Renewables shall collaborate with the Minister of Environment and Climate Change for Canada and the Minister of Finance for Canada to exempt the Province's forestry industry from the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act (Canada).
