An Act Respecting the Installation
of Wood Chip Heating Systems
in New Public Buildings

WHEREAS the Government of Nova Scotia introduced an initiative in 2020 to convert certain public buildings from fossil fuel heating systems to wood chip heating systems ;

AND WHEREAS using wood chip heating systems is an environmentally friendly way to heat buildings and help lower Nova Scotia's greenhouse gas emissions;

AND WHEREAS nine public buildings in Nova Scotia are now using wood chip heating systems;

THEREFORE be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Wood Chip Heating Systems in Public Buildings Act.

2 The Government shall consider installing wood chip heating systems in all new builds of or major retrofits to provincially-owned public buildings, including schools and hospitals.
